EIFS Repair Tip Of The Day for 3-20-2011
Repairing EIFS | Exterior Insulation and Finish System
There are two ways to repair Synthetic Stucco, one is to patch the damaged area only and the other is to repair from coast-to-coast. What I mean by coast-to-coast is from corner to corner or V groove to V groove. When you repair an entire area coast-to-coast, it is much easier to make it look like new again. When you patch an area in the middle of the wall without going coast-to-coast it is near impossible to make it look new again. You will always see the patch no matter what you do. So, best practice is to go coast-to-coast with all your Exterior Insulation and Finish System repairs. Matching the color exactly is very difficult as well. After you finish your jobs you should always leave the owner some of the color so they can match it for repairs down the road. Architects and owners should keep in mind when designing that if repairs are to be done latter you will not want to redo entire walls for small repairs and add V grooves to the design. V-grooves can break the wall up into more manageable and cost effective areas to repair if and when the time comes.
